- Matti Niskanen
In June 2024, we completed a maintenance painting project on Matti Niskanen's detached house in Oulu.
Our aim was to restore the house's much worn façade to its original glory and to ensure the structures would provide long-lasting weather protection in the harsh northern conditions, where sea winds and weather frames wear away at the surfaces.
The project started with a thorough groundwork. The paint on the house was very faded, thin and flaking in places. We carried out a thorough mould cleaning and brushing, then carefully removed the flaking paint and resin to ensure a clean and adherent base for the new paint.
The painting itself was done with a high quality Tikkurila Vinha topcoat. We chose this stain because it forms a flexible, water-repellent, yet breathable surface that is highly resistant to weathering without cracking while the wood is still alive. The wood surfaces were primed before the actual topcoat was applied. We painted all the wooden parts of the house once, except for the trim, which was painted by the client himself. During the project, the site was kept tidy and the work progressed according to the schedule agreed with the client.
The end result was successful and visually impressive, restoring the value of the property and giving it a fresh, new look. The most important thing, however, is long-lasting protection, which is all the more important given the site's proximity to the sea.
