In August 2025, we carried out a maintenance painting project on Hannu Räisänen's log cabin in Taivalkoski. The client wanted to give new life to a worn paint surface that was more than 30 years old, and to ensure the building would last in the varying weather conditions of the area. 

The work started with a thorough groundwork, which is key to achieving a sustainable outcome. The surface of the log cabin showed a lot of darkening and the beginnings of moss. We carried out a thorough mould cleaning with Virtanen Paint Factory products, which deeply cleaned the wood of dirt and growth. We then treated the surfaces with Virtanen's mould killer, which further prolongs the life of the new paint surface by preventing microbial growth. 

At the request of the customer, a high quality Virtanen 4 Oil Paint was chosen for the painting. The choice was based on the excellent properties of the paint, which give the building a natural, breathable look that is just right for the log cabin environment, without forgetting its traditional durability. We painted all the wooden surfaces of the cabin twice to achieve an even and sufficiently thick coat of paint.

The end result was fresh and respectful of tradition. The cottage got the new look and protection it deserves, which will stand the test of time and the stresses of Taivalkoski's nature for years to come.
