In September 2025, we carried out a facade maintenance painting on a building protected by the National Board of Antiquities in Nummela. The maintenance painting had been delayed, which meant that the old paint surface was in a very poor condition. So the groundwork had to be done very thoroughly to make the final result durable.

Outdoor housing
We started the groundwork with a thorough sand cleaning, where all dirt and vegetation was washed off the surfaces to be painted. We then removed all loose paint from the surfaces to be painted. The old oil paint surface was too hard for the new paint to adhere to, so we used a non-centre sander to roughen all the surfaces to be painted. We primed the wooden surfaces with Tikkurila Valtti Plus Primer and primed with Tikkurila Ultra Primer. Finally, we topcoated all wooden surfaces with Tikkurila Ultra Classic primer. Topcoat
we did by applying the paint with a high-pressure paint sprayer and working the paint into the wood with a brush.

Doors
The exterior doors of the main entrance and all the wooden window frames in the building were also carefully painted for maintenance. The doors and window frames required a harder coat of paint because they are mobile and mechanically stressed structures, subject to greater wear and tear and moisture than the horizontal cladding of the façade. The maintenance painting of doors and window frames included the following steps:

- All vegetation and dirt was removed from the surfaces by mould cleaning
- All loose paint was removed from the surfaces
- The surfaces were roughened throughout with a non-central grinding machine.

- The surfaces were primed once with Teknos Futura Aqua Primer
- The surfaces were topcoated twice with Teknos Futura Aqua 40 topcoat.

Result
The final result of the painting job was a professional and well-established façade, which gave a fine building a worthy exterior. Thanks to the professional paint job, the building was able to protect its wooden surfaces for at least the next 10-15 years.
